Sanja Matsuri

The old days ,three persons found a Kannon (the Goddess of Mercy )statue from the Sumida river. Asakusa shirine (sanja gongen ) was built to honor the three persons as deities. (sanja gongen means three avatars.)
Please enjoy about 100 portable shrines and street parade.

14th May
19:00 - the deities will be on the main three portable shrines from Asakusa shrine.

15th May
13:00 - street parade
14:20 - a musical performance to the god of a shrine.
15:30 - the deities will be on the each town’s portable shrine.

16th May
Noon - the parade of about 100 portable shrines.
16:00 - a dance and a musical performance to the god of a shrine.

17th May
6:00 - the parade of main three portable shrines.
14:00 - a dance and a musical performance to the god of a shrine.
11:00 - 18:00 the festival is held between Kaminarimon street and Umamichi street.

The deities will be put back to Asakusa shrine from the main three portable shrines.
