BUGAKU: music accompanying traditional Japanese Court dances.
NOH :a major form of classical Japanese musical drama.
KYOGEN: a humorous plays performed along with NOH
OHAYASHI : played on traditional Japanese instruments
SANKYOKU: a samisen , a koto , a Chinese fiddle.
HOGAKU ,HOBU: music performance (a three stringed Japanese banjo ,a vertical bamboo flute ) and Japanese dancing.
BIWA: music performance ( a four stringed Japanese lute )
KAGURA :sacred music and dancing performed at shrines.
SHISHIMAI : a lion dance.

Place; in Meiji shrine.

※Meiji Jingu holds a Spring Grand Festival. At the festival, a lot of Japanese traditional performing arts such as BUGAKU (ancient court music), NOH (traditional Japanese theatre) HOGAKU and HOBU (classical Japanese dance) will be performed. Anyone and everyone can see the performance. The shrine is also surrounded by a lot of plants so you can feel and see the nature too.

11th May: 13:00 a festival ceremony
12th May: 19:00-20:00 each town of portable shrine parade
13th May: 06:15-18:30 the main portable shrine parade.

12th13 th May: all-day a musical performance to the god of a shrine
Shitaya Shrine: 6 minutes on foot from JR Ueno station.
※The Shitaya Shrine was originally built on the Ueno plateau in 730.
Please enjoy the portable shrine and the street food market that has 1000 years of history.

19:00 - the deities will be on the main three portable shrines from Asakusa shrine.

18th May
13:00 - street parade
14:20 - a musical performance to the god of a shrine.
15:00 – a musical performance at the hall for Shinto music and dance.
15:30 - the deities will be on the each town’s portable shrine.

19th May
Noon - the parade of about 100 portable shrines.
16:00 - a dance and a musical performance to the god of a shrine.
17:00 - a dance and a musical performance by shrine mediums.

20th May
6:00 - the parade of main three portable shrines.
14:00 - a dance and a musical performance by shrine mediums.
15:00 - a dance and a musical performance to the god of a shrine.
16:00 – a drum performance
11:00 - 18:00 the festival is held between Kaminarimon street and Umamichi street.

The deities will be put back to Asakusa shrine from the main three portable shrines.

Place :Sensoji temple 5 min on foot from Asakusa station (Ginza Line )
※The old days ,three persons found a Kannon (the Goddess of Mercy )statue from the Sumida river. Asakusa shirine (sanja gongen ) was built to honor the three persons as deities. (sanja gongen means three avatars.)
